1. Introduction. Cafés & Careers is operated by Rosedale Technologies Ltd., 30 Bertrand Ave, Toronto ON M1L 2P5 ("we", "us" or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and share your personal information when you use our website and membership service. 2. Information We Collect.
Application: your name, email address, phone number, city, the details about your work you give us (including your role and company, if you share them) and the link to the public LinkedIn, Instagram or YouTube profile you share with us. We use the profile link only to review your application; it is seen by our team and never shown to other members.
Profile: the one-line introduction you write for your group.
Participation: which Saturdays you say yes or no to, the groups and cafés you are placed in, whether you attended (including whether the others in your group tell us you came), your feedback, and who you choose to stay in touch with.
Group chat: the messages you send in your group's chat. Your group sees them with your first name; our team can read a group's chat to keep it safe — for example when a message is reported — and can remove messages.
Communications: records of the SMS and email messages we send you, including delivery status, and your replies.
Payments: your membership status and billing history. Card details are handled by Stripe and are never stored by us.
Feedback & connections: feedback you share after a meetup and whether you choose to stay connected with other members.
Device & location: your IP address, which we may use with a third-party geolocation service to estimate your country.
3. How We Use Your Information.
Reviewing applications: to verify your application and keep the network women-only.
Running meetups: to curate your group, choose cafés and send invitations, meetup details and reminders.
Membership: to process your subscription through Stripe and manage your access.
Safety: to investigate reports and enforce our Member Guidelines.
Improving the service: to understand what works, using feedback and attendance.
4. Sharing of Information.
With your group: members of your group see your first name, your role and company if you shared them, and your introduction. We never share your phone number, email address or profile link with other members. When you and someone from your group both choose to stay in touch, we share your full name and only the ways to reach you that you choose (your mobile number, email, or an Instagram or LinkedIn you add for this). The profile link from your application is never shared. Nobody is told if you don't choose them.
With cafés: meetups need no reservations, so we do not share your details with cafés.
Service providers: only as needed for them to provide their services to us, including Twilio (SMS), Stripe (payments), Amazon Web Services SES (email delivery) and DigitalOcean (hosting). Café pages may link to third-party map services, which have their own privacy policies.
Legal requirements: we may disclose information where required by law or to protect the safety of our members.
5. SMS Messaging. When you apply, you agree to receive text messages from Cafés & Careers at the mobile number you give us, and you confirm that number with a one-time code.
What we send: membership and meetup messages (about your application, your invitations, your replies and the details of each meetup) and account notices (sign-in codes, and payment and membership notices).
Frequency: message frequency varies with your membership and the meetups you join.
Cost: message and data rates may apply.
Opting out and help: reply STOP to any message to opt out of all text messages, and HELP for help. You can also contact us at hello@cafesandcareers.com. If you opt out, we can't send your invitations or meetup details by text.
Your mobile information: No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
6. Cookies & Tracking. We use cookies to keep you signed in. We may also use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Conversions API to measure and improve our advertising; these tools may share information such as your device, browser, actions on our site and IP address with Meta. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.
7. Data Security. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet or mobile networks is completely secure.
